My awesome friend Kyle made me quite possibly my favorite paper doll he has ever made, Stephanie Brown, he also said he’s going to do a Robin as well, wether it’s Red Robin to match or if it’s a Robin costume for Stephanie that’s up to him. Even if he doesn’t do it, I’m happy with this. Also my awesome roommate Mark gave me a ticket to watch The Avengers yesterday. Best Birthday ever!

New Yorker art editor Françoise Mouly has a new book just out detailing all the New Yorker covers that never made it to news stands.

Her Blown Covers tumblr, which kicked off in February, offers occasional excerpts from the book (such as the above cover from SPX 2012 special guest, Chris Ware) along with a super-fine array of featured artists and some behind the scenes goodness from Mouly and Nadja Spiegelman.

While I dutifully admire the manly, punchy gags of Peter Arno and Charles Addams, the “old school” New Yorker cover artists I think most about are actually all women. Gay couple makes history, gets engaged on military base

What could’ve been grounds for dismissal just last year under “Don’t ask don’t tell”, is now a reason to celebrate. Last week Cory Huston, a gay veteran, dropped to one knee and popped the question to his boyfriend Averice Guerrero as soon as he landed at Camp Pendleton, CA from his 10-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Avarice said yes.

The happy couple is likely the first gay couple to get engaged in a U.S. military base. Huston, who was discharged from the Navy when he was outed in 2006, hopes this romantic act can show other gays in the military to live their lives without fear.
